COLERAIN – Myra Sharp Stokes of 201 West River Road, Colerain, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, after happily celebrating her 90th birthday with all of her family the day before.
Born in Harrellsville, NC, she was the oldest of three children of the late Hunter and Helen Sharp. A homemaker, she was a member of Colerain Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Edgar Lee “Boy” Stokes, Jr.; her sister, Ann Sharp Sears; her brother, Hunter Sharp, Jr.; and a grandson, John Stokes Rooker.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Helen Dempsey of Wilson and Ann Stokes Askew and husband, Wade, of Eure; a son, E. Lee Stokes, III and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Hunter Lee Rooker of Raleigh, Laura Stokes Turner and husband, Chris, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Melissa Askew White and husband, Paul, of Eure; and three great-grandchildren, Sammy, Ryland and Lacy White.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Colerain Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Roberts, Jr. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Colerain Baptist Church, PO Box 126, or the Colerain Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 247, or the Colerain Rescue Squad, PO Box 397, all in Colerain, NC 27924.
