Oliver Hale, Sr.

Oliver Winstead Hale Sr. 89, of the 500 block of Gatling Street, died Wednesday June 30, 2010 at his home.
Wint was born in Ahoskie, NC on August 25, 1920 to the late Otho William and Norene Johnston Hale and was predeceased by his two wives, Frances Spivey Hale and Katherine Gillam Hale. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Mac and Fred Hale and a sister, Johnston Pierce.
Mr. Hale was a member of Cashie Baptist Church and retired from the US Postal Service. He served in the Navy Cee Bees during World War II. Wint was a Town Commissioner for the Town of Windsor for 36 years. He served on the Mid East Commission for 30 + years and retied from the Windsor Volunteer Fire.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday July 2, 2010 at Cashie Baptist Church by Dr. Carroll Tarkington. Burial will follow with military honors at Edgewood Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Len Hale Joyner and husband, Dennis, of Rocky Mount, NC; a son, the Rev. Oliver Winstead Hale Jr. and wife, Phyllis, of Murfreesboro, NC; a sister, Katherine H. Murray of Kinston; a brother, Bob Hale of Sunbury; grandchildren, Helen Lassiter, Otho Hale, Joseph Hale and Allen Joyner; and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home on Friday, July 2, 2010 and at other times from the home. Memorial gifts may be made to either Cashie Baptist Church, 221 S. Queen St., Windsor, NC 27983 or to University Home Care Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
