COLERAIN – Leo Wingate Barnes, 74, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his home in Colerain after a lengthy illness. He had been preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Lee and Mattie Bridgers Barnes.
A native of Lasker in Northampton County, he was a salesman with Davis and Company in Conway for many years and then retired from Jones Brothers Auto Parts in Colerain. His memberships included Colerain Volunteer Fire Department, Colerain Baptist Church, Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 418 as a Master Mason and he was a Shriner.
His survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Carrie Davis Barnes of their home in Colerain; three sons, Michael Wingate Barnes of Trapp, Kenneth Marcel Barnes and wife, Lisa, of Williamston, and Scott Maurice “Marty” Barnes and dear friend, Linda Phelps, of Colerain; one daughter, Lauren Michelle “Miki” Grove and husband, Carl, of Brunswick, MA; nine grandchildren, John Michael, Marcel, Clifton, Gaylord, Kyle Scott, Savannah, Michelle and Danielle Barnes, and Leigh Ann Terry; one great granddaughter, Kaila Hanna Barnes; and one brother, Richard William Barnes and wife, Brenda, of Rocky Mount.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 27 in Conway Baptist Church with the Rev.Willie McLawhorn and the Rev. Don Johnson presiding.
The family has requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift please do so to the Colerain Volunteer Fire Department.
