Seven-run inning dooms Post 102

AHOSKIE – Post 58 exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh here Monday night.
That seven-run inning broke open a 2-1 game between Rocky Mount and Ahoskie Post 102 and led Post 58 to a 13-2 win in a Senior American Legion contest.
The game was tied at nil through the first four innings.
Ahoskie threatened in the bottom of the fifth when Braxton Sumner singled with one out. Sumner went to second on a Cody Cahoon single and then Travis Ellis walked to load the bases.
A squeeze bunt was caught and turned into an inning-ending double play to keep the game scoreless.
Rocky Mount finally got on the board in the top of the sixth stanza, getting two runs and taking a 2-0 advantage.
Ahoskie responded with a single run in the home half of the sixth.
Eli Spruill was hit by a pitch and stole second. Spruill then scored on a Zeek Williams RBI-single to right.
Rocky Mount, however, preserved a 2-1 lead.
Post 58 then plated seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and added a four-spot in the top of the eighth to take a 13-1 lead.
Ahoskie scored its second run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Tyler Burden walked and stole second before moving to third on a Kyle Horton groundout. Burden then raced home on a Spruill RBI-groundout.
Mitchell Godwin singled to right, but a third groundout ended the contest.
Marvin Harrell pitched six and two-thirds of an inning for Post 102. He allowed four runs on five hits. Tyler Pryor, Brad Miller, Judson Smith and Spruill also saw time on the mound.
Ahoskie totaled five hits.
The loss drops Post 102 to 0-12 for the season including an 0-7 mark in the conference. They will host Jones County tonight (Thursday). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
