Ahoskie man faces drug charges

AHOSKIE – An Ahoskie man was arrested on drug charges here early Friday morning.

Ervin Mckenley Cherry, 46, of 804 Everette Street in Ahoskie was arrested after local lawmen discovered illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia in his home, according to Ahoskie Police Major Jimmy Asbell.

Asbell said that APD Detective Sgt. Stephen White and other members of the Ahoskie Police Department executed a search warrant at Cherry’s residence. Approximately 16 grams of cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia were discovered.

Cherry was arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to Winton where a magistrate set his bond at $50,500 secured.

“I would like to thank Detective Sgt. Stephen White not only for his dedication to the police department, but also for his continued determination to protect the citizens of Ahoskie from the drugs offenders that plague our communities,” Major Asbell said.
