Marie Martin James, 78, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at her home in Murfreesboro after a brief illness.
She had been preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Robert Earl James Sr.; her parents, Roy and Tabitha Martin; and a brother, Roy Earl Martin.
Mrs. James worked with Belk, Inc. in Murfreesboro for 28 years and had been promoted to manager prior to its closing. She continued working with the Ahoskie Belk store until her retirement. She also enjoyed working part time with Town and College Cleaners in Murfreesboro after her retirement. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her love of family and friends and especially, her love of her Lord. Her motto was to live one day at a time.
Her memberships include Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro where she was actively involved in WMU, serving as Director, the Benevolence Committee, the Pastor Search Committee and member of the Sanctuary Choir. She also was a member of the Exchangettes Club and in the past had been honored as Exchangette of the Year.
Survivors include three children, Robert Earl James, Jr. and wife, Lynda, of Charlotte, Mark Timothy James and wife, Kim, of Greensboro, and Ruth Anne Flanagan and husband, A.B., of Murfreesboro; one brother, Johnny A. Martin and wife, Becky, of Conway; eight grandchildren, Chris James, John James, Philip James, Caroline James, Brad Davis, Benji Flanagan, Jeffrey Flanagan, and Logan James; and five great grandchildren, McKenzie James, Lincoln James, Sophia Davis, Jack Davis, and Claire Flanagan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 in Meherrin Baptist Church, 519 Meherrin Ave., Murfreesboro, with the Rev. Josh Parsons and the Rev. James Hester presiding. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. 605 West Main St., Conway, on Friday, June 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and has requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to Meherrin Baptist Church and specify Baptist Children’s Homes-Britton Ministries.
