Winston Harrell

Winston Lee Harrell, 61, son of the late Clarence and Mary Jane Harrell, slipped quietly into eternal rest at home on May 27, 2010.
He was forever the teacher and mentor who always encouraged hard work and dedication. Winston did his best to help others when he could and expressed his gratitude to those who helped him.
Winston was born in Harrellsville, NC and was a resident of Hampton for 38 years. He was an Educator for the Hampton City Public Schools and York County Public Schools where he retired April 2006 after 29 years of service. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Les Hommes Civic and Social Club, York Count Retired Teachers, Elizabeth City Alumni Association and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
At the age of 12, he joined New Bethany Baptist Church in Harrellsville, NC. He attended Hertford County Public Schools and Elizabeth City State University where he received a BS degree in Art Education. He received a Masters Degree and Educational Specialist degree from George Washington University in Washington DC.
Winston is preceded in death by his brother Clyde Harrell. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 27 years, Dorothy Fulton Harrell of Hampton; one brother Donnell Harrell of San Antonio, TX; three sisters Elaine H. Spivey (Richard) of Ahoskie, NC, Beulah H. Sessoms (James) and Celestine H. Hawkins of Hampton; and one brother in law Arthur C. Fulton (Gladys) of Fayetteville, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Smith Brother’s Funeral Home, 537 Mercury Blvd., Hampton, VA.
