Sidney Keeter

Sidney Gordon Keeter, Sr. 92, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC.
He was born in Windsor, NC on February 12, 1918, the son of George Edward Keeter and Nellie Bowen Keeter. In 1940 he enlisted in the US Army and afterwards served in the Ceremonial Military Honor Guard in Washington, DC. After serving there, he joined the Army Air Corps and was trained to be a B24 Transition Pilot. After WWII ended, he worked in the insurance business with Home Security Life of Durham, NC.
During his early years in New Bern, NC he worked as Staff Manager for his company, and helped to organize a new church called Temple Baptist. While there he also joined the Free Masons.
Later, his company sent him to Goldsboro, NC where he was placed as District Manager and became a member of the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Buck Keeter in 1983.
He is survived by his sons; Sidney G. Keeter, Jr. and wife, Paula, of Asheboro, NC, Edward Keeter and wife, Ellen, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Neal Keeter and wife, Denise, of Cary, NC. He is also survived by two daughters; Amy Hamlet and husband, David, of Efland, NC, and Ruth Barbour and husband, Pat, of New Bern, NC. He is survived by ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Central Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro, NC 27203 where he was a member.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11:00 am at Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, NC, with Reverend Jim Cox officiating.
The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Randolph Hospital and a very special thank-you to the staff at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home who have taken care of him since 2001.
