Edenton knocks off Post 102

AHOSKIE – Post 40 scored seven times in the top of the first inning and knocked off Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 13-3 here Tuesday night.
Edenton opened the scoring with those seven first inning runs.
Daniel Oliver, Chad Whitehead, Kendrick Jackson, and Alex Weaver each had RBI-singles while John Hunter had an RBI-double. Cameron Peed scored drew a bases-load walk and Weaver scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.
Ahoskie responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first frame.
Eli Spruill had an infield single before Blake Hill belted a two-run homer to center to close the gap to 7-2.
Post 102 scored its final run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kyle Horton doubled to right-center field and moved to third on a Tyler Pryor infield single. Horton then scored on a Tyler Burden sacrifice fly to get within 7-3.
Post 40 added a single run in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by Evan Holton and then scored five runs in the top of the seventh stanza.
Peed had a three-run homer to center, Hunter had an RBI-single and Oliver scored on a wild pitch to make it 13-3.
Ahoskie went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
In all, Post 102 used four pitchers. Dakota Young, Hill, Spruill and Marvin Harrell all pitched for Ahoskie. Austin Cooke tossed five innings for Edenton as he picked up the win. Andrew Womble and Oliver also pitched.
Ahoskie tallied seven total hits. Travis Ellis, Daniel Merritt, Judson Smith, Spruill, Hill, Horton and Pryor each had a hit.
Peed led Edenton with four RBIs.
Ahoskie dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the loss. They will host Wilson at 7 p.m. Saturday and then travel to North Raleigh for a 3 p.m. double header on Sunday.
