Harry Lee Tyler Sr., 89, of NC 35, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Born in Northampton County, he was US Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic, Pacific, European, and African Theaters. He was retired from Exxon Corp. where he served as their Fleet Manager for North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Tyler was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Gatesville and in recent years attended Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church in Conway.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Russell Tyler; a daughter, Nancy Tyler Poston of Gates; a son, Harry L. Tyler Jr of Greensboro; and a brother, Earle Tyler of Columbia, SC; his wife’s children, Ronnie Graham of Houston, Texas, Terry Graham of Murfreesboro, Sandra Daughtry of Conway and Sherry Allen of Pendleton; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church with Revs. David Ross and Billy Presley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery.
Friends may join the family from 7-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 22 in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 336, Thomasville, NC 27360 and be directed for use in the construction of the Ahoskie home.
