Bertie High School grabbed a pair of victories heading into next week’s North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A playoffs.

On Tuesday, the Lady Falcons defeated Bear Grass High School 9-5 before topping Gates County 10-1 on Wednesday.

Bertie started slowly, but cranked it up and started hitting the ball in the third inning.

Sandy Todd had a homerun which helped the team bring in a pair of runs. Jody Mizelle got hit during the game, but came back strong having a good defensive and offensive game.

The entire team contributed, according to BHS skipper Jackie Copeland.

“It takes the whole team for a win,” she said.

Wednesday, Andrea Dunlow and Caroline White combined to pitch a one-run victory.

“Caroline has come back strong from the injury that she had earlier this season,” Copeland said. “She is getting her game back and the team is happy for her.”

Next week, the Lady Falcons will make their first-ever trip to the 2-A playoffs when they travel to Richlands High School.

“The girls have been working hard at practice,” Copeland said. “As long as they give 100 percent and give it all they have, I can ask no more from them.”
