Bessie Ward Smith, age 87, of Cofield died Friday, May 07, 2010 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
She was born February 5, 1923 in Bertie County to the late Miley Ward and Annie Elizabeth Ward. She was the wife of the late Cecil Lynn Smith.
She was a homemaker, a member of Powellsville Baptist church, avid reader and gardener and retired from Family Dollar store in Ahoskie,
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, J.C. (Jimmy) Smith and his wife, Alisa, and Miley Wayne Smith, both of Suffolk, Va.; a daughter, Judith Willis and her husband, Jack C., of Ocracoke, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Earl Smith; a daughter, Shirley Smith Farmer; and a grandson, John Michael White.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie.
