MERRY HILL – Ridgecroft School continued to work its way through the Tarheel Independent Conference here Monday.
The Lady Rams used a five-hit performance by right-handed hurler Mary Kate Morris to knock off Lawrence Academy 4-0.
The Lady Warriors got a four-hit performance from senior Jennifer White on the mound as she took the loss despite striking out 12.
Lawrence threatened in the first two innings, but left four men on base without scoring. Ridgecroft, meanwhile, went quietly in each of its first two at-bats.
The Lady Rams scored all four of their runs in the top of the third inning.
Lindsay Jacob led off with a walk and then Taylor McKeel reached on a fielder’s choice and an error that allowed Jacob to score all the way from first base. McKeel then came home on an Emily Cooke triple to left field.
Cooke scored on an RBI-single by Tayler Smith to make it 3-0. Smith advanced to second on a Morris single and then scored when Brice Harrison reached on an error to make it 4-0.
The game was a pitcher’s duel from that point with the Lady Warriors producing no base runners in the third, fourth, fifth or sixth innings while Ridgecroft managed only one runner in that span.
The Rams left another runner on base in the top of the seventh when Cooke had a two-out single, but was stranded.
Lawrence got a lead-off single by Ashtyn Mizelle in the home half of the seventh, but a fly-out and two strikeouts ended the game.
Morris finished with seven strikeouts and no walks for the Lady Rams.
Cooke paced Ridgecroft offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Smith was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Morris was 1-for-3.
Taylor Sexton, Kendra Spruill, Mizelle, Hayden Thompson and M. White each went 1-for-3 for the Lady Warriors.
Ridgecroft improved to 8-2 overall with the win and 6-2 in league play.
