Clyde Braxton Britt, 84, of Murfreesboro died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Rich Square Villa.
Born on the farm, which had been in his family since 1862, to Charles Elton Britt and Lala Mae Ward Britt, he attended Murfreesboro public schools and Norfolk Business College. Following an accounting career with the Seaboard Airline Railroad in Norfolk, the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in Jacksonville, Florida, and the United States General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., he retired to the family farm.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie, and an active supporter of Chowan University and the Murfreesboro Historical Association, all of which benefited from the generous sharing of Braxton’s knowledge, talents and resources.
He was predeceased by his sister, James Bernice Britt Herbin, and his brother, Royce Elton Britt, as well as his parents. A special thank you is extended to his loving caretaker, Donna J. DeBerry, and the staff at Rich Square Villa.
In keeping with Braxton’s wishes, his life will be celebrated at a graveside service followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, to be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 11 a.m.
