Evelyn Britton Young, age 80, died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Evelyn was born August 30, 1929, a native of Northampton County. She was a member of Zion Methodist Church.
Evelyn married Joseph “Jack” Young on August 21, 1948 and they made their home in Aulander. She loved her family very much and was very dedicated to providing them with her love. Evelyn loved gardening and comforting family and friends with her home cooking.
Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Rosalind and Johnnie Britton; her husband, Joseph “Jack” Young; a son, Joseph L. “Joe” Young; a grandson, Joey Young; two sisters, Eva Mae Jones and Jessica Baugham; and a brother, Johnnie Clyde Britton, Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda Bowen and her husband, Cleve, of Woodland, Shelia Conner of Aulander and son in law, Ray Conner of Woodland, and Sherry Young and Earl Hurdle of Aulander; and one son, Grover Young of Aulander. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Tonya Bowen, Tina Bryant, David, Deago and Dewayne Conner, Cody Hurdle, Bo, Kelly and Lou Young, along with twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Zion Methodist Church in Conway with the Rev. Ed Drew and the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Aulander Cemetery in Aulander.
