Bears fall at Red Oak

RED OAK – Nash Central topped Hertford County High School 7-2 in a non-conference baseball game here Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the first and then added four runs in the third to take a 5-0 advantage.
Nash Central added two more in the home half of the fourth to lead 7-0.
The Bears scored their only two runs in the top of the fifth frame.
Brandon Staton doubled before Marvin Harrell walked. Staton scored on a Daniel Merritt RBI-single and then Harrell came home on a Brandon Warren single as they closed within 7-2, but never got closer.
Harrell pitched six innings for the Bears, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out five.
Merritt led HCHS with two hits.
The Bears dropped to 6-2 overall and will host Pasquotank County High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
