MURFREESBORO — An elderly man has been injured after a Friday afternoon blaze here.

As of Friday evening at press time, only a few preliminary details were available about the fire.

According to Murfreesboro Public Safety Director and Police Chief Darrell Rowe, dispatch received a call around 3:58 p.m. about a structure fire located at 706 E. High St.

Rowe said Murfreesboro Fire Department was dispatched at 3:59 p.m. and the first units arrived at the location three minutes later.

He said a female along with three children and an elderly male subject were in the structure at the time of the fire. The fire was called in by the female.

Rowe added the male was injured and was taken to the hospital. He did not know which hospital the victim had been taken to.

Radio communication indicated that Nightingale, a medical transport helicopter that serves Norfolk Sentara Hospital, had been dispatched.

Rowe said firefighters were on scene quickly as well as Hertford County Emergency Medical Services. Mutual aid was called in to Winton Fire Department. The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance at the scene.
