Robert Eric May, Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010.
He was born in Castalia on January 16, 1927, son of the late Opie and Ilene May. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise C. May; son, Cloy Lee May; and three brothers, L.C. May, Mickey May, and Alvin May.
Eric proudly served his country in the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy. He was employed and retired from Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. He was a faithful member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He loved to play golf and was a member of Birchwood Country Club. Eric was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan.
Eric is survived by his son, Robert Eric “Ricky” May, Jr. of Charlotte; sister and brother-in-law, Corinne and Staley Leonard of Castalia; brother and sister-in-law, Royce and Libby May of Rocky Mount; a devoted friend, Sue Edwards of Red Oak; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Eric will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rucker Burnette and the Rev. Norman Mitchell officiating.
