Rachel Moore

Rachel Evans Thompson Moore, longtime resident of Durham, 85, passed peacefully the morning of Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
Mrs. Moore was the daughter of James William and Martha Eley Thompson of Colerain. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Guy T. Moore Jr. DVM, in 2005. They worked side by side for 35 years at the Moore Animal Hospital. Her son, Guy T. Moore III, predeceased his mother in 1984. Mrs. Moore’s siblings, John Eley Thompson of Colerain, and Betty T. Quick of Apex, preceded her in death in 1986 and 2005, respectively.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Moore Fillinger, and son-in-law, Steve, of Kittrell. Also surviving Mrs. Moore are her sister-in-law, Margaret Thompson of Durham, and several nieces and nephews in North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
With Mrs. Moore having donated her body to the Duke Medical School, a private family scattering of her ashes, and her husband’s ashes, will be held at a later date. Details regarding the memorial service in honor of Mrs. Moore are pending at this time.
The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care and love shown to Mrs. Moore by the staff of the Home Instead Senior Care, Treyburn Nursing Facility, Durham Regional Hospital, and Duke Hospice.
