HOBGOOD – Ridgecroft School wrapped up both Tarheel Independent Conference championships.

The junior varsity Rams claimed both the regular season and tournament championships in the league and finishing with a near-perfect 21-1 record.

“These young men had a great year by winning both the regular season and tournament championships,” said first-year Coach Brandon Hodges. “Coach (Danny) Lafferty and I hope these young men stay together.

“This team isn’t big in size, but they have the biggest hearts. It’s been a delight to coach these guys,” he added.

In the Tarheel Independent Conference tournament championship, the Rams trailed 8-2 against Lawrence Academy after one quarter, but bounced back to outscore the Warriors 9-8 in the second quarter.

Lawrence took a 23-17 lead into the final period, but Ridgecroft scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to take a 30-25 victory.

Landon Larabee led the Rams with 13 points while Elijah Goldsby added 11. Hodges said both those players also gave him excellent play on the defensive end of the court.

Rounding out the scoring for the Rams were Woody Lowe (3), Cas Castelloe (2) and Jordan Harrell (2).

Lawrence was led by eight from Darren Armstrong and seven from Jesse White.
