Helen Lewis Eure Willey, 97, of 800 Medical Center Road, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.
Born in Gates County, she graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College, now ECU, and Appalachian State and North Carolina State universities. She taught elementary grades in Eure, Aulander, Sunbury and Gatesville before retiring.
She was a member of Kittrell’s United Methodist Church where she taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband, Joshua Whedbee Willey Sr.; a son, Joshua Whedbee Willey Jr. of New Bern; a granddaughter; and two sisters, Musa Eure Roach of Chesapeake, Va. and Maline Cammer of Waynesville.
A funeral was held Monday, March 8 at Kittrell’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Askew officiating. Burial followed in the Willey Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
