Mildred was born in Gates County, grew up in Ahoskie and graduated from Ahoskie High School in 1929. Living in Norfolk since 1942, she worked and retired from Leigh Memorial Hospital in 1976 after 31 years of service, all the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift in the newborn nursery. She loved those babies – every one of them and there were many, many, many diaper changes. Were you one of those babies?
