Geraldine Pierce Jernigan 78, of West Askewville Street died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at University Health Systems Hospice in Greenville.
A native of Bertie County, she was a member of Askewville Assembly of God and former member of the Women’s Ministries. She worked as a nurse’s aid at both Bertie Memorial and Roanoke-Chowan Hospitals. She had also been employed by Stevenson’s Crab Company.
Survivors include daughters Vickie J. Byrum and Bettie J. Harrell, both of Windsor; a son, C.B. Jernigan of Grandy; sisters, Ruth Pierce and Lucille Pierce, both of Newport News, VA; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Askewville Assembly of God by the Rev. R. O. Denton Jr. and the Rev. R. O. Denton Sr. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and at other times from the home of Bettie Harrell, 109 Askewville-Phelps Street. Memorial gifts may be made to University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice, PO Box 30945, Greenville, NC 27834.
