Lou Wilson Evans Mason died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at her home in Harrellsville. She would have been 95 later this month. She was born on February 22, 1915, to Meta Gray Leary and David Noah (Dave) Evans.
She graduated from Harrellsville High School and Chowan College. Prior to her marriage in 1941 to Ralph C. Mason, Jr., she taught English and History at Mars Hill School in Bertie County. She lived her entire life in Harrellsville and was one of the town’s most vocal advocates. She was an avid historian and an active member of the Harrellsville Historical Association. She was also a member of Harrellsville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma Meier of Tallahassee, Florida; her son, Jimmy Mason and wife Jeannie of Harrellsville, four grandchildren, Ashley Raymer and husband, Matt, Jeff Mason and wife, Nell, Jeannette Meier and Jon Meier, and four great-grandsons. Other survivors include her two nieces, Joan Davidson and Edith Taylor and husband, Rick, her nephew, Ken Evans, four grand nephews and one grand niece. She was pre-deceased by her husband, her brother, Harry Evans, her sister-in-law, Polly Mason Evans, her son-in-law, George Meier and an infant son, Alan. She also leaves behind loyal long-term care givers.
Funeral services will be at Harrellsville Baptist Church on Friday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Harrellsville Cemetery. Rev Mark Hall will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Mason, 107 Sunset Street in Harrellsville.
