COLERAIN – A Bertie County man lost his life in a residence fire here Friday afternoon.

Clifton G. Miller, 45, died when his home at 105 Powell Street in Colerain was destroyed by fire.

“We are still investigating the incident at this point, but we have no reason to believe there is foul play involved,” said Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins.

According to Atkins, a call came in at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday from a neighboring home saying the house was on fire. The Colerain Fire Department and Trap Fire Department responded to the call.

Miller’s body was found in the living room area of the home and was badly burned, according to the sheriff.

Once the fire scene has cooled, investigators will attempt to find out the cause of the blaze.
