AHOSKIE – Hertford County remains undefeated in Northeastern Coastal Conference play.

The Lady Bears downed visiting Pasquotank County High School 68-36 Friday night to lift their league record to 4-0 while moving to 6-3 overall.

Briante Bond poured in 22 points while Jaleesa Chinn added 16 and Sherniece Futrell contributed 12 for the Lady Bears. Lindsay Jones led Pasquotank with 15 points.

The Lady Panthers got the first bucket of the game, but it was all Hertford County after that.

Chinn started the Lady Bears with a three-pointer that was followed by a pair of hoops from Bond and a Futrell basket that gave HCHS a 9-2 lead.

The Lady Panthers got a hoop from Jones, but it was answered by a Chinn triple. Following a free throw from Ashlee Richie for Pasquotank, Hertford County got a pair of free throws from Camryn Jones and a bucket by Bond to grab a 16-5 lead after one quarter.

Bond scored first in the second quarter, but Pasquotank was able to rally when Jones’ three-pointer sparked an 8-1 spurt for the Lady Panthers. Jones had six points on the spurt while Tracie Twine added the other hoop. The only score for HCHS came when Jones hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.

It was Bond who finally got the Lady Bears going with back-to-back baskets that pushed the Hertford County lead back to 10 (23-13).

The Lady Panthers had another spurt, scoring five of the next seven points thanks to free throws from Jones and Victoria Jeffries and a hoop by Richie answered only by a Futrell bucket.

Hertford County, however, scored four of the final five points of the quarter when Bond and Deondra Morrison sandwiched hoops around a Jeffries free throw to give the Bears a 29-19 halftime edge.

The Lady Bears started the third quarter with a 6-0 spurt that extended to a 12-2 run that all but clinched the contest. Futrell had the first bucket of the quarter followed by consecutive Brandi Burden hoops.

After Jeffries scored for Pasquotank, Futrell hit a hoop that was followed by a Chinn triple and a free throw from Burden that gave Hertford County a 41-21 lead with 4:25 to play in the third quarter.

Jones stopped the spurt with a three-pointer, but the Lady Bears came right back with back-to-back hoops from Bond and Chinn to push the lead to 47-24.

Pasquotank scored five of the next seven to close the gap back to 20, but a Larinda Fennell hoop just before time expired gave the Lady Bears a 51-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final stanza, it was again all HCHS with the Lady Bears rolling off the first 13 points and 17 of the first 18.

Bond had the first bucket followed by a Chinn triple. Morrison hit back-to-back hoops before scores by Bond and Takia Williams gave Hertford County a 64-29 lead.

The Lady Panthers got a free throw from Jones, but Futrell hit back-to-back buckets to establish a 68-30 lead and the Bears cruised to victory from there.

In addition to those in double figures, Hertford County got six from Morrison, five from Burden, three from Jones and two each from Fennell and Williams.

Hertford County will travel to James B. Hunt High School in Wilson tonight (Tuesday) for a non-conference affair before hosting rival Bertie High School Friday night.
