Florence Freeman Heckstall, 80, of Moore Road, Kelford, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A native of Bertie County, she was a member of Peterson Chapel Baptist Church, Merry Hill. She was a retired farm worker.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary H. Sessoms of Colerain, Paula H. Jenkins of New York and Florence H. Cherry of Kelford; sons, Robert Heckstall of Kelford, Cecil Heckstall, Lemuel Heckstall, William Heckstall and John Heckstall, all of Middletown, CT; sisters, Mary Freeman, Annie Sue Freeman, Bessie Freeman, Hattie Mae Freeman and Christina Anthony, all of Philadelphia, PA, Bertha Clemons of New York, NY, Susie Sutton, Annie Gilliam and Reta Roulhac, all of Merry Hill; brothers, Paul Freeman and Ned Freeman Jr., both of Colerain, Leroy Freeman of Philadelphia, PA, William Henry Freeman of Middletown, CT and Edward Freeman of Merry Hill; 30 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 4 at Peterson Chapel Baptist Church, Merry Hill, with the Rev. Percell Whitaker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, handled the arrangements.
