WINDSOR – A recent arrest has the Windsor Police Department advising area businesses to be on the lookout.
Windsor Police Sgt. Ricky Morris arrested Shaquan Speller, 33, of Cremo Road in Colerain after a foot chase Sunday afternoon and charged him with two counts of trespassing, two counts of resist, obstruct and delay and one count of misdemeanor larceny.
On Dec. 23, Speller allegedly committed larceny at the Duck Thru Food Store on U.S. 17/13 in Windsor. Windsor Police officers attempted to arrest him, but he fled on foot through the woods.
He was then spotted Sunday afternoon by Sgt. Morris, who again had to give chase, but eventually Speller was arrested and placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
According to Sgt. Morris, Speller was out on bond from similar charges in both Bertie and Hertford counties at the time of his arrest.
“He has a lengthy history of larcenies,” Sgt. Morris said. “He is banned from pretty much every store in Windsor, but continues to make his way back into those places of business and commit larceny.”
According to information provided by law enforcement, Speller has been charged with larceny, resist, obstruct and delay, drug charges and breaking and entering as part of a long criminal history. Those charges have occurred in Bertie, Hertford and Martin counties.
“We want businesses in Windsor and the surrounding areas to be aware of the history Mr. Speller has,” Sgt. Morris said. “If he is banned from a location, they should call law enforcement and let us handle the situation.”
