GASTON — The victim of a murder here earlier this week was stabbed in excess of 80 times.
Meanwhile, a man under arrest for that murder is facing charges for another violent crime.
According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie P. Vincent, his office served warrants on Thursday to Rashon Rakeem Squire, 18, for robbery with a dangerous weapon and first degree kidnapping.
Squire is already behind bars at the Northampton County Jail charged with the murder of Triston Jaquan Perry, 17, of Gaston whose body was discovered Monday on a dirt path.
Vincent said the two additional charges for Squire stem from a different crime, one that occurred Sunday, December 27 on Highway 48 near the area where Perry’s body was found.
Vincent said Squire allegedly called the victim and scheduled a location to meet up. Upon the victim meeting the suspect, the sheriff said Squire allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and told him to go to a nearby wooded area. There, the suspect robbed the victim of $80.
For the additional charges, Squire received a $15,000 bond. His first appearance in court was Thursday. After his first appearance for the first degree murder charge, Squire is still being held under no bond.
Perry’s lifeless body was discovered Monday morning on a dirt path known as Clover Lane in Gaston. Sheriff Vincent said the pathology report that he received Thursday afternoon indicates the victim suffered from 80 plus stab wounds.
Squire has an address of 1100 Otterdale Rd, Midlothian, Va., but was recently staying at a residence on Ashe Street in Gaston.
The investigation is ongoing.
