LASKER — The Northampton County Chamber of Commerce helped kick off the holidays for the business community.

On Thursday, the chamber held its annual “Christmas Get Together.”

“It’s to bring everyone together and celebrate Christmas and do a little networking,” said Chamber Executive Director Judy Collier.

Chamber members chatted up several local and state politicians at the event held in the ballroom of Valley Pine Country Club. Attendees enjoyed a meal with all the trimmings, entertainment by Conway-based singing group, His 4-Ever, and tried their luck on raffle tickets.

The crowd also received an update on where the organization, which began in 1995, is heading.

Collier said a membership drive was just completed in October by the Chamber’s new membership committee headed by Cindy Watson. The drive paid off as six new members have joined, including Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments in Wilson and Blast Off Chemical Manufacturing in Seaboard.

The Chamber is currently working with a local CPA to have a seminar to educate small business owners on the new taxes that will be levied.

Collier, along with Chamber Vice President June Warren, encouraged businesses to get involved with the organization.

“We encourage businesses to come and join the chamber,” said Collier.
