Support the Bears

Hertford County High School fans have an opportunity no other in the Roanoke-Chowan does Saturday evening.

Those who support the Bears can go to a home football game to cheer on their team in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs.

A perfect regular season (11-0) was enough to get the Bears a home game this week and for the next three consecutive weeks providing they win. That is something that first-year Head Football Coach Scott Privott and his team should be proud of.

The Bears’ football players and coaches have worked hard to give themselves home-field advantage in the playoffs. Now, it’s important that those who love Hertford County High School in general and the Bears in particular go out and give them that advantage.

It’s an important part of football to have the home crowd loud and cheering with all their might during the games. Hertford County’s players have earned the right to have that and we believe all should go out and show their support.

We encourage fans of the Northampton-East Rams and Gates County Red Barons to make the trip to support their teams in the first round of the playoffs as well. The Rams are going to Wallace-Rose Hill and the Barons are heading to Jones County. They could use all the support they can get.

Those who can’t make the trip or who don’t have a team in the playoffs should come to Ahoskie and support the local Bears as they begin their quest for a 3-A championship. Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday as the game was moved from Friday due to heavy rain from the nor’easter.

Go Bears!
