MURFREESBORO — One day after winning re-election, Lynn Johnson resigned Wednesday from her position as mayor of Murfreesboro.
Town Administrator Cathy Davison confirmed to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that Johnson submitted a letter of resignation at 12 noon to Mayor Pro-Tem Molly Eubank.
Johnson’s resignation is effective immediately.
Johnson has served as mayor of the town since December of 2005.
According to the unofficial results from Tuesday’s municipal election, Johnson earned 218 votes. While she was the only individual to file for mayor, 135 Murfreesboro voters chose to write-in the names of other choices for mayor. Of that amount, 111 votes were captured by former Murfreesboro Town Councilman Wayne Brown, according to the unofficial results from the Hertford County Board of Elections.
The News-Herald will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
