Dorothy Bridgers Powell, 93, of Woodland died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie.
A native of Northampton County, she was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. Powell was the leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship and was a lifetime member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, now known as the UMW. She was a member of the Woodland Civic Club and was the elections registrar for the town of Woodland.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda P. Howell of Kitty Hawk and Jean P. Bryant of Woodland; a sister, Elsie B. Thomas of Portsmouth, VA; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Woodland United Methodist Church, Woodland, with the Rev. Ed Drew officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square.
