Greenfield edges Ridgecroft tennis

MURFREESBORO – Ridgecroft School suffered just their third tennis loss of the season last week.
The Lady Rams fell to Greenfield School 5-3 despite winning four of the six singles’ competitions.
Ridgecroft number one seed Tayler Smith grabbed the first singles win when she knocked off Annie Nowell 6-3 and 6-1.
Number two seed Carolina Bowman secured a victory over Rebecca Bissette by a final of 6-2 and 6-1.
Greenfield’s Betsy Bethune defeated Taylor Futrell 6-0 and 6-3 while number four seed Megan Gleespan topped Erin Riddick 6-2 and 6-1.
Alex Riddick won the battle of number five seeds for Ridgecroft as she defeated Katy Purinai 6-4, 6-1. The sixth seed, Katy Futrell then knocked off Lindsey Cox of Greenfield 3-6, 7-5 and 10-7.
“I am extremely proud of our effort in this match,” said Ridgecroft Head Coach Elton Winslow. “It shows how much we have improved. We lost to them 8-1 in the first match of the year. To come this close is a testament to our hard work.”
In doubles action, Greenfield took the top see battle when Cameron Blair and Nowell edged Smith and Bowman 8-6. Bissette and Bethune then defeated Futrell and Erin Riddick 8-5 while Gleespan and Purinai edged Futrell and Roxie Daniels 8-6.
Ridgecroft finished out the regular season 8-3 overall.
