Wrecked vehicles erupt in flames

AHOSKIE – Two vehicles were involved in a fiery crash near here Monday.

The accident report from the NC Highway Patrol was not ready for release, but it is known that both vehicles involved erupted in flames after impact.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Willoughby Road and Hall’s Siding Road near the Brantley’s Grove community in Hertford County.

Passengers in one vehicle were able to escape their burning van, but one person was trapped inside the other vehicle.

The News-Herald was able to confirm that Hertford County Emergency Management Director Charles Jones risked his life to rescue the driver trapped inside that vehicle.

Personnel from Ahoskie Rural Fire Department, Winton Fire Department, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford County EMS, Hertford County Emergency Management and NC Highway Patrol were noted on the scene.
