AHOSKIE – A portion of NC 561 east of Ahoskie is closed to thru traffic due to a house fire.

Four units of the Ahoskie Rural Fire Department were on the scene shortly past 5 p.m. where they were able to extinguish the blaze, confined to a single-wide mobile home.

The home, located behind a brick residence that faces NC 561, was fully engulfed upon the arrival of the firemen.

No injuries were reported.

With the exception of emergency responders, Ahoskie Police closed NC 561 to all traffic at its intersection with US 13 (Memorial Drive). It is not known when the road will reopen.
