Bruce Wayne Whichard Sr., 74, of Harrell’s Church Road, Gatesville, died Friday, October 9, 2009 in Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City.
A native of Martin County, he was a retired electrician and maintenance department employee of Carolina Aluminum in Winton and served in the Virginia National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Morgan Whichard; two daughters, Cheryl Ricks of Newsomes, VA and Janet Eure of Gatesville; two sons, Bruce W. Whichard Jr. of Eure and Brian Keith Whichard of Greer, SC; a sister, Shirley Simmons of Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Robert Whichard of Chesapeake, VA and Ervin Whichard of Virginia Beach, VA; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held on Monday, Oct. 12 at in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, with the Rev. Timmy Whichard officiating. Burial followed in the family plot at Eure Christian Church Cemetery.
