ELIZABETH CITY – Lawrence Academy started slowly, but ended well here Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors’ volleyball team took five sets, but was able to knock off Albemarle School 12-25, 25-16, 25-14, 24-26 and 15-7.

“We came out flat and were on our heels,” said Lawrence Volleyball Coach Dr. Ed Clouse. “We made some adjustments and started to dictate the offense. Ashton Lyle would drive back any overset for a kill.”

The Lady Warriors lost the first game 25-12, but bounced back in game two to grab a 25-16 victory. They also won game three (25-14), but the Lady Colts took game four in extra time.

Lyle led the Warriors’ comeback with eight kills, six blocks and three aces while Taylor Sexton had 18 assists and five aces during the contest.

Ashtyn Mizelle recorded nine kills for Lawrence to go along with six aces and Jennifer White had six digs and two blocks.

Casey Belch had four digs and four kills for Lawrence while Melissa White had four kills and a perfect day serving.

Lawrence is now 16-1 overall and 9-1 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.
