Travis S. Uzzell, 81, of Scotland Neck died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Our Community Hospital in Scotland Neck.
A native of Halifax County, he worked for Merck Pharmaceuticals and the farming business.
Uzzell was a member of First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck where he served as deacon, chairman of deacons, chairman of finance and was a member of the Pittman Bible Class.
He also served as Register of Deeds for Halifax County. He served as a Halifax County Commissioner from 1960-1974, was a member of the Halifax County Board of Social Services and taught Notary Law for eight years at Halifax Community College. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Scotland Neck.
Survivors include his wife Sarah B. Uzzell of the home; a son, Steve Uzzell of Scotland Neck; a sister, Sylvia Lois Uzzell Menard of Hampstead; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the First Baptist Church in Scotland Neck with Dr. James Drake and Rev. Reese Jones officiating.
