Lady Eagles outlast East

CREEKSVILLE – Two local schools locked in volleyball battle here Friday.

Northeast Academy came out with a hard-fought five-set win against rival Northampton County High School – East. The Lady Eagles won 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 24-26 and 15-8.

“This was a great neighborhood contest,” said Northeast Academy Head Volleyball Coach Cap Pfeiffer.

The Lady Rams grabbed victory in the first game, but Northeast rallied back to take the next two. In the fourth game, NCHS-East led 20-18, but the Lady Eagles rallied.

Northeast got five consecutive serving points from Sarah Taylor Best to take a 23-20 advantage. The Lady Rams, however, rallied to win the game 26-24 and force a tiebreaker.

“We just could not earn those other two points,” Pfeiffer said.

Kelly Sykes was exceptional during the contest for Northeast. She recorded 11 kills to go with six aces, three digs and two assists. Her sister, Jennifer Sykes, was also stellar, recording 13 assists as well as 10 aces. She also had three kills, three tips, two digs and a block.

Brittany Bolton had an excellent day serving, recording 10 aces on the afternoon. She also added a dig. Lacy Pfeiffer checked in with three aces, three digs, three tips, two kills and two assists.

Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Dayna Barnes with an ace and a tip and Ashlee Flythe with one dig.

The Lady Eagles improved to 7-2 overall with the victory.
