Northeast volleyball wins opener

ROCKY MOUNT – Northeast Academy got off to a quick start last Friday.

The Lady Eagles’ volleyball team scored a three-set win over Faith Christian Academy in the season-opener.

“The girls played well together,” said veteran Northeast skipper Cap Pfeiffer. “Each team member made a contribution.”

The Lady Eagles won by counts of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-20.

Kelly Sykes had a solid afternoon, scoring two aces and three kills while Lauren Edwards had four aces, one dig and a kill.

Jennifer Sykes added two aces, four assists and a dig and Dayna Barnes had three aces, two kills and one tip.

The Lady Eagles also got strong support play from Sarah Best and Brittany Bolton, according to Pfeiffer.

Northeast (1-0) will travel to Community Christian School for another non-league outing on August 27.
