Leona White Carpenter, 80, of Pleasant Hill died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Carolina Rest Home in Roanoke Rapids.
A native of Northampton County, she was co-owner of Big John’s Store in Pleasant Hill, attended Halifax Community College and received her LPN degree.
Survivors include a son, John L. Carpenter Jr. of Gaston; two daughters, Pam Grant and Debbie Lassiter, both of Lasker; three sisters, Reba W. Mayle of Pleasant Hill, Barbara Ann Kroner of Stafford, VA and Edith Crater of Terrance, California; one brother, Rudolph White of Virginia Beach, VA ; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Stansbury and the Rev. Chad Manion officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
