Also known as “Peach Man”, V.W. (Vernie) Cross was a resident of Potecasi N.C. He passed away August 1, 2009 in Roanoke Chowan Hospital at the grand age of 85.
What a wonderful life he had. Vernie was a U.S. Veteran serving WW II from 1943-1945. At the age of 67 he volunteered to go to the Persian Gulf.
Vernie was a car salesman for Tyree Jones and Don Comer Ford. He also was self employed as owner and operator of B&W Outlet.
Vernie’s greatest joy was selling and giving away peaches and socializing with everyone; he knew no stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Cross; his daughter, Terri Cross; sisters, Elizabeth Casstevens, Barbara Brown and Betty Lee; brothers, Bobby Cross, Douglas Cross and Jimmy Cross; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his friends and neighbors for being there for him.
Services will be private with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
