Wendall Ray Mahone, 70, of Ayden died Monday, August 10, 2009 at his residence.
A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, he served in the US Marine Corps for six years and was retired sandblaster at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a Deacon at Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Portsmouth, VA where he also served as Sunday School Superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Apostle Mary Harrell Mahone of the home; seven sons, Wendall Ray Jones, Trent Jones, Michael White and Ricky Jones, all of Portsmouth, VA, Kelvin Jones of Ayden, Andre Jones of Chesapeake, VA and Anthony Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; seven daughters, Kimberly White, Cynthia Ellison, Sheila Harris, Candice Tidds and Kelly Edwards, all of Portsmouth, VA, Cynthia Jones of Newport News, VA and Mary Watson of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Nola Crabtree of Bowling Green, KY; 41 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Portsmouth, VA with Dr. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will take place at Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery in Aulander.
