EDENTON – Mylan Franklin Pressnell, 94, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in a local nursing facility.
Born in Ivor, VA, on September 22, 1914, he had been a longtime resident of Burlington, NC where he was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired cost analyst with Western Electric.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Ruby S. Pressnell of Edenton; two granddaughters, Cara Lynn Vogel and husband, Jamie, of Raleigh, and Andrea D. Croom of Raleigh; one grandson, Kevin J. Croom and wife, Missy, of Farmville; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Rebecca and Dustin Croom of Farmville, and Jesse Vogel of Raleigh; a son-in-law, Jesse J. Croom and wife, Mary Anne, of Edenton; three step grandchildren, Tim Britton and wife, Angie, of Ahoskie, Malinda Schantz and husband, David, of Raleigh and Michelle Britton of Wilmington; and six step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pressnell was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Pressnell Croom in 1996.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital for the love and care given to “Mr. Press” during the past two years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks and the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Friends may join the family at the home of his son-in-law, Jesse J. Croom, 408 Bay Point Dr., Edenton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; the Alzheimer’s Association; Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville St., Edenton, NC 27932; or the Woman’s Missionary Union of North Carolina.
