MURFREESBORO – A strong list of candidates has been narrowed to just two.
Chowan University Athletic Director Dennis Helsel said Tuesday afternoon that a pair of candidates for the vacant Director of Tennis job have been invited to campus.
“We began with 34 resumes, 12 of which were really strong candidates,” Helsel said. “From there, we got down to around six candidates and have since invited two of them to come to campus.”
The AD said there were two different types of candidates coming to campus. One of them is a veteran coach with 10 years of experience at the NCAA Division II level. The other is a top assistant at the DII level.
“Both of them have shown they have great recruiting abilities,” Helsel said. “Both played competitively. Both have master’s degrees. Both want to start private lessons in the community.”
The first candidate was on campus earlier this week and the other will arrive the first of next week. They are interviewing to replace Matt Micheel who resigned during the summer.
“My goal is to meet with each of them and then make an offer by next Tuesday,” Helsel said.
