ST. JOHN – The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office is still in the process of developing suspects in a drive-by shooting which occurred near here early Sunday morning.

Four men reportedly left the Forest Inn night club here early Sunday morning and were making their way back towards N.C. 561 when a white Lincoln LS drove up beside their vehicle which was traveling on the Jim Hardy Road.

According to a report filed by Hertford County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Joyner, the passenger in the white Lincoln fired three to four shots inside the other vehicle, striking both the driver and the front seat passenger.

The two who were injured went to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital where one was treated and remains in the facility. The other victim was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, but has since been released.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said his officers have developed a person of interest in the case, but not a suspect. He would not elaborate on the person of interest.

He did say, however, that his office was seeking any information that witnesses or others may have in the case.

“We working to find the person or persons responsible for this incident,” Sheriff Vaughan said. “We would very much appreciate any assistance the public can give us.”

Those with information pertaining to the case can contact Hertford County Crimestoppers at 358-7841 or call the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office at 358-7800.
