WINTON – ‘Tis the season….for boating, and leave it to “Cheryl’s Girls” to find a unique way for local boat owners to show off their water craft.
Cheryl’s Girls is a Hertford-Gates Relay for Life team famous, not to mention very successful, for their fundraising efforts. While the 2009 Relay event was held two months ago, that fact doesn’t stop this team from continuing to raise money in the fight against cancer.
“Currently, Hertford-Gates Relay for Life is still trying to reach their goal for this year,” said Leigh Nowell, captain of the Cheryl’s Girls team, named in memory of her late mother who was a cancer victim. “We have several months left to reach this goal and Cheryl’s Girls Relay for Life Team is still in high gear.”
Nowell said a unique July 4th fundraiser will hopefully generate additional funds for Relay for Life. On that date, local boat owners are asked to gather at Tuscarora Beach for a “Floating Parade.”
All entries should meet at 2 p.m. at Riverside Crabshack to receive numbers and line up. There is a $20 donation per boat to enter.
Participants will ride from Tuscarora Beach to the Winton Bridge and back to Tuscarora Beach for judging purposes. Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative, Most Original and Most Patriotic. All proceeds go to Relay for Life. Entry forms can be picked up from Riverside Crabshack or you can register the day of the parade.
To add to the festivities, local DJ Robert Earl Dilday will be playing his wide variety of tunes from 1-10 p.m.
