Julia Iris Hayes Darden, 89, of Gates died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A native of Gates County, she was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess and a Missionary. She was also a member Delta Sigma Theta, YAK, Retired Teachers Association, Tent Club and United Order of Tents. She was retired as a school teacher from Gates County Public Schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Faye Smith of Gates; one brother, Jethro Hayes of Roduco; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 27 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell.
