Edenton tops Post 102

AHOSKIE – Post 40 scored five runs in the fourth frame and went on to beat Ahoskie Post 102 12-4 in a Senior American Legion baseball game here Wednesday night.

Edenton opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first.

Ahoskie scored one run in the bottom of the second stanza.

Eli Spruill and Josh Morris had back-to-back singles and then both advanced on an error on Morris’ hit. Spruill scored on an Edward Joyner sacrifice fly to close the gap to 3-1.

Edenton then broke open the game with five runs in the top of the fourth frame.

In the bottom of the fourth, Morris and Zeek Williams had consecutive singles to left. With two out, Grayson Toms was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a flyout ended the inning with Post 40 leading 8-1.

Ahoskie scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Spruill walked, Morris was hit by a pitch and Joyner singled to right to load the bases. Spruill and Morris scored on a two-run single to center. Joyner then scored on a Travis Ellis RBI-single to make it 8-4.

Edenton scored three runs in the top of the seventh and one in the ninth for the 12-4 final.

Gavin Mizelle pitched three innings and suffered the loss for Post 102. Morris tossed three and one-third and Brandon Warren pitched the final inning and two-thirds.

Austin Beasley pitched five innings for the win for Post 40.

Ahoskie had 10 hits during the game. Williams, Joyner and Morris have two hits each to lead Post 102. Ellis, Mizelle, Spruill and Aaron Hoggard had one hit each.

Four Lawrence Academy players had big nights for Edenton. Evan Holton had two hits and four RBIs. Cameron Peed had one hit and two RBIs and Daniel Oliver had one hit. Chad Whitehead pitched the final four innings for Edenton.

Ahoskie is now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They travel to Kinston Saturday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader. They will play Tarboro at home Monday at 7 p.m.
